Yellow Water Cruises and Corroboree Billabong

Drop Bear by Ian Coate Corroboree Billabong offers visitors pristine wildlife, untouched by tourism.

Darwin, Northern Territory Australia:

Considered by many to be one of the best areas for viewing wildlife in their natural habitat, Corroboree billabong is a travellers dream and is completely untouched by mainstream tourism. Rivalling some of the more touristy wildlife cruises, such as Yellow Water Cruises, Corroboree is perfect for travellers looking for vast arrays of birds, crocodiles and flora. But without the crowds.

Corroboree Billabong has only one company operating on its water system, that is Wetland Cruises. Because of this exclusivity, passengers have the chance to escape the crowds and mass tourism. This makes it perfect for photographers and travellers who want to experience pristine wilderness. Attactions like Yellow Water Cruises can have many companies operating at one time, this takes away from the experience and can drive away wildlife. The cruise boat used at Corroboree Billabong only carries approximately half the number of passengers as the boats used at yellow waters.

Its easy to reach the Corroboree Billabong. To get there you need to travel along the Arnhem Highway to Corroboree Park Tavern which is located 85km from Darwin and 167km from Jabiru. From this point on the Arnhem Highway it only takes 20 minutes to reach the cruise.
A shuttle bus to the cruise is also available from Corroboree Park Tavern. This is perfect those travellers who have a hire car and are not permitted to drive on unsealed road, or who wish not to take their vehicle on this type of terrain. The Shuttle bus operates daily from May - Oct. The cruise carries a maximum of 32 passengers compared to Yellow Waters maximum of 50 passengers per cruise.

Wetland Cruises has been involved in nature based tourism within the Top End of the Northern Territory for over 20 years. Over this time they have gathered an impressive amount of local knowledge of the best areas to see in this amazing area of Australia.

The Top End is renowned for its magnificent wetlands such as Yellow Water Cruises billabong in Kakadu National Park and more recently Corroboree Billabong in the proposed Mary River National Park. These wetland habitats provide an ecologically sustainable environment and are a paradise for birds, fish, crocodiles and other wildlife. Corroboree Billabong also has large areas of water lilies in flower which make the wetlands look spectacular. A visit to the Top End would not be complete without cruising these pristine wetlands and discovering a spectacular landscape that has not changed for thousands of years.
